It is important to remember that your password is case sensitive, that is, A and a are not the same. It is also important to understand that repeated attempts to authenticate with an incorrect password can lead to a temporary block on your public IP Address. If this is the case, then it will expire in 1 hour, or you can contact the helpdesk and raise a ticket to have it removed sooner and providing your public IP Address.

First go to the File Menu (Windows) or the Thunderbird Menu (Apple) and Select "Account Settings" Towards the bottom select "Account Actions" and then "Add Mail Account…"

Enter your Name, Email Address and Password, then click "Configure Manually".

Enter the information as above remembering that your Username is your full email address (Unless you've been told otherwise). These instructions are for dakota.gen.net.uk, but if you've been told your server is andromeda.gen.net.uk or atlantis.gen.net.uk then supplement these for dakota.gen.net.uk.

Now Click Done.

Thunderbird will test the settings and display a screen similar to the above. You can now click FINISH and your email is setup.
